McCullough goall.jpgWhat a remarkable finish is in prospect to the Workington and Sunday League’s Premier Division.

Northside appeared to have handed it to Bluebell when they lost to the Sun Inn, but it’s all to play for again, all hinging on the final game of the season on Tuesday.

The two title rivals had to meet twice to complete their fixtures and when Northside went 2-0 down by half-time it looked as though Bluebell would go on to win and lift the title.

But in a cracking game of football Northside stormed back and eventually won the game 4-3 with goals from Steffan Scott (2), Brad Tatton and Liam McCullough.

Bluebell thought they had one hand on the winner’s trophy with goals from Mathew McClure, Grant Quayle and Gavin Martin.

Northside trail Bluebell by a point going into the last game on Sunday (kick off 2pm) and being played behind Northside School.

League secretary Ron Caffrey said: “It was a great game of local football, end to end stuff and well controlled by referee Graham Young and his two assistants Tommy Linford and Lee Fox.”

On Sunday Bluebell had beaten Sun Inn 5-1 with goals from Tom Powell, Gary Connolly, Colin McAllister, Ryan Connolly and Greg Quayle.Martin goal.jpg

Northside, meanwhile, had hammered Dearham 10-3 with goals from Steffan Scott (3), Kyle Galea (2), Tony Berwick (2), Liam McCullough, John Price and Jamie Moore. Drren Rule, Shaun Smith and Jonathan Bridgewood were on target for Dearham.

Outside the Premier Division the big game on Sunday was the final of the Divisional Cup in which Broughton beat Yankees 2-0. Regan Tinnion and Keith Skillen scored the goals.

Yankees Bar are still the only team who can stop Broughton from completing a League and Cup double – if they win their last two Division One games. But the last one is against Broughton.

In a Division One clash Borough Miners were 4-1 winners at Sun Inn Athletic with goals from Swayne Sowerby (2), Brian Rutherford and Richard McDowell. Ashley Monkton was the scorer for Athletic.

PETER BRATLEY covered the crucial Premier Division game between Bluebell and Northside, snapping key goals - at the top, the moment when Liam McCullough scored Northside's fourth and winning goal; the goal that pulled Bluebell level at 3-3 from Gavin Martin and how it all started with Greg Quayle notching Bluebell's first.
